Milan Metro M1

Italy

Ghella is involved in the construction of the westward extension of Milan’s Red Line M1, for a total length of 3.3 km, entirely underground.

Starting from the current Bisceglie station, the alignment will cross the Valsesia, Baggio and Olmi districts and will include 3 new stations (Parri, Baggio and Olmi), 6 line structures and a new train depot. The extension will be built almost entirely using TBM technology. The tunnel boring machine will excavate from west towards the city centre; it will be launched from the Pertini structure site and retrieved once it reaches the Parri structure, near Bisceglie.

With the extension of the M1 line, Milan takes a decisive step forward in expanding the metro network in the western part of the city. This is a strategic project that strengthens public transport in a densely populated area and improves accessibility for citizens, offering a concrete alternative to private transport while combining sustainable mobility, innovation and care for the local area.

The surface redevelopment project for the affected areas includes significant environmental and public green space improvements near the new stations. The goal is to create accessible, usable and vibrant public spaces that serve as central hubs for the entire neighbourhood and community.
